A Map of Old Korea

The original map on which this one is based was made in the 18th century and is currently in the U.S. Library of Congress.

SEOUL is the capital of Chosun (and of modern-day South Korea).

HAE IN SA is the Buddhist temple where Hong Kil Dong and his men carried out their first raid.

JANG SUNG is the town which claims to be the birthplace of Hong Kil Dong. A festival is held each year in his honor.

Ho Kyun, the author of Hong Kil Dong, lived in the area of KANG NUNG.

HAM GYUNG PROVINCE, one of Chosun's eight provinces, is the location of the second raid of the Hwal Bin Dang.

Many mountains in Korea are considered sacred sites or locations of great significance. These include Chi Ri San, So Rak San, Kum Gang San, and Paek Du San. (Can you guess what San means?)
